26 Personal Essays in 2017 Challenge

In 2017, my writing mojo was missing, presumed dead.  A writing friend sent me Vanessa Martir’s #52essays2017 challenge, and I accepted, except I did a #26essays2017 and ended up writing 21*, because I can’t count.

My rationale for taking on this personal essays challenge was simply this:

I’m doing this because I’m the first to admit I’ve become a lazy writer: allowing guest posts and series and cross-posting to make up the bulk of content on The Diane Lee Project across 2016. The brave, fearless writing that readers admired and respected me for has all but disappeared. This year – 2017 – will be different. I’m reclaiming my voice – my write like a motherfucker voice!

And here are those essays, in order of my having written them:

Essay 1 – I’m a Failure

Essay 2 – The Power of One

Essay 3 – Crush: Anatomy

Essay 5*– Crush: Evolution

Essay 6 – Crush: Extinction

Essay 7 – On Opportunity

Essay 8 – A Close Encounter of The Delicious Kind

Essay 9 – Silenced

Essay 10 – On Beauty

Essay 11 – On Opportunity in Vietnam

Essay 12 – Reorganising My Life

Essay 13 – All My Children

Essay 14 – On Learning a New Language

Essay 15 – Why I Love Vietnam

Essay 16 – Missing Home

Essay 17 – Near Death Experience

Essay 18 – On Being an Ageing Woman

Essay 19 – Dear John

Essay 20 – Dear Diane

Essay 21 – Like Mother, Like Daughter

Essay 22 – So, My Mother Died

I’m seriously considering doing this challenge again for 2022, after recently completing Vanessa’s Writing Intentions workshop…
